Friday is the night for swing dancing in Sacramento! Held in our beautiful dance studio the Spotlight Ballroom. Each week people of all ages and walks of life dance the night away to the best Swing, Jazz, and Blues music in Sacramento. You’ll even catch live music once or twice a month ($15-$20 cover charge depending on the band) featuring bands from around the world.
Some of the musicians in the bands we bring in have played with such legends as Keely Smith, Etta James, Chick Corea, John Lee Hooker Jr., Charles Brown, and many more. Our DJ nights ($10 cover charge) feature a wide variety of music that includes something for everyone. Song requests are always welcome, just talk to our DJ!
You never need a partner because our dances are extremely social and you’re sure to make great friends at Midtown Stomp. The dance runs from 9:00 pm to 12:00 am and there is an introductory lesson at 8:00 pm which is included with your cover charge. We also offer Group Swing Dance Classes for those who want to take their dancing to another level. Come out and join us every Friday night!

January 12th – SwingMasters 17-Piece Big Band – $15
In the swing dancing era, most of the bands playing for swing dancers were big bands. Nowadays, it is difficult to find a big band that plays music specifically for swing dancing. Fortunately, Sacramento has the SwingMasters, a 17-piece band that is ready to swing you around in any direction you want. If you have never danced to a full big band, you do not want to miss this night!
January 14th – Hug It Out – A Second Sunday Shuffle – $10
It’s our first monthly Balboa and Shag-focused dance of 2024! Grab your fast-dancing shoes and get ready to burn up the floor. There’s a Shag class from 1:00 – 2:00 pm and dancing from 2:00 – 5:00 pm.
January 19th – DJ’d Dancing – $10
We love live music but sometimes a good old DJ night can make for an incredible night. Our DJs will spin your favorite Swing, Jazz, and Jump Blues for your dancing pleasure. Your requests are always welcome so just ask your friendly DJ for the songs that you love to swing dance to.
January 26th – 19th Anniversary W/Steve Lucky And The Rhumba Bums – $15
We’re celebrating 19 years of dancing on January 20th and we want you to be a part of the fun. That’s right YOU! You are what makes Midtown Stomp the awesome venue that it is. Without you, we wouldn’t have been able to have all these amazing dances. Without you, we wouldn’t have been able to hire all of the amazing bands.
To celebrate we’re bringing the Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bumbs to our stage for an epic night of dancing. These amazing musicians have played all over the world and we’re excited to have them swinging hard!
So come on out and let’s celebrate!

February 9th – Harley White Jr. Orchestra – $15
We’re excited to welcome the Harley White Jazz Orchestra back to the stage. They’re bringing back the swingin’ tunes of the Harlem Hit Parade! Harley is a staple of the Sacramento Jazz, Blues, and Funk scenes, and if you’ve seen live music in this town you’ve probably heard him play. With the perfect mix of Duke Ellington and Count Basie’s sound and incredibly talented players, this is sure to be a great night of dancing.
February 16th – The Crescent Katz – $15
Hot Jazz! Get your Hot Swingin’ Jazz here! The Crescent Katz are back on our stage for an evening of hot jazz and furious dancing! These musicians are all about fun and play some amazing swing-dancing music. They even have a washboard instead of drums!
How should you dress? It’s a Midtown Stomp event and there’s no dress code. That said, we encourage everyone to look their best. Do you have a dress that’s been waiting for the right moment to wear? We like it! That powdered blue tux you bought to wear at your friend’s “Dumb and Dumber” themed wedding will look smashing on you.
